You need the agent

The microinverters report over the powerline to an ECU, which answers only on your LAN. The Sunplug Agent must run on a machine at home: a NAS, a Raspberry Pi, whatever is already on. There is no cloud option: APsystems' EMA API is limited to installer partners.

What it can and cannot see

Microinverters measure production only, not what the house uses. Without that, surplus cannot be worked out, so Sunplug records production and tells you what is missing rather than charging the cars from the grid.

If you have an ECU-B or ECU-R

Add a grid meter: a Shelly EM or Pro 3EM clamped at your supply point. The agent finds it on the same sweep as the ECU and offers to pair the two.

If you would rather not buy a meter

Set Solar tracking to gross production in Settings. The cars charge on everything the panels make, and the house runs on the grid meanwhile, so you will buy some electricity. The allowance for the house beside that setting keeps a share of production back for it. Less precise than a meter, but free.

If you have an ECU-C

Sunplug reads the ECU-C's internal meter and CT clamps — no Shelly needed.

Connecting

  1. Give the ECU a fixed address on your router
  2. Install Sunplug Agent on a machine at home
  3. Run setup — it sweeps the network and should find APsystems ECU, and any Shelly alongside it
  4. Pair with the code from the app: Settings → Cars & chargers → Add agent

If the sweep misses it, enter the addresses by hand on the setup page: one field for the ECU, one for a Shelly.

When it does not work

Nothing found on the sweep

The agent must be on the same network as the ECU. Test it:

Expect succeeded or open. If refused, the address is wrong or the ECU is on another subnet or VLAN.

It was working and stopped

The ECU probably changed address after a router reboot. Pin it on the router.

Production reads zero in daylight

Check the ECU's own page. If it shows fewer inverters online than you have, the powerline link between the array and the ECU is at fault.

Cars still work normally

The inverter only sets how much surplus there is. A Tesla is still controlled through Tesla, any other car through an OCPP wallbox.
