Setup guides
Connecting your kit.
One page per device: what you need before you start, where to find it, how
long it takes, and what usually goes wrong. Hardware not yet running live
for Sunplug customers is clearly labelled beta — if you have any issue
during setup, let me know and I
will work with you to get everything working.

Sunplug Agent
A Raspberry Pi on your network, set up from your phone. Nothing exposed.
Solar
Sunplug needs two numbers: what your panels are making, and what your house
is using. The difference is what your cars can have. An inverter that only
reports production cannot tell surplus from a cloudy day, so those are
paired with a meter — each page says which yours is.
Enphase
Sunplug AgentCloud API — one-click sign-in
IQ Gateway read on your own network — the best data Sunplug can get from anything — or share your system from the Enphase app, nothing to install.
APsystems
Sunplug Agent
DS3, DS3L, YC600, QS1 — read off the ECU on your own network. Pair one with a grid meter, unless it's an ECU-C — that one sees the whole site itself.
Push API
JSON REST API
No adapter for your inverter? Send the readings yourself from a script or Node-RED — everything downstream works identically.
Solis
Cloud API — one-click sign-in
Approve on SolisCloud's own page. Nothing to type. Running on Sunplug customers today.
SolarEdge
Sunplug AgentCloud API — one-click sign-in
Read locally over Modbus with the agent, or approve on SolarEdge's own page — cloud readings every fifteen minutes.
Fronius
Sunplug Agent
No account, no key, no subscription — the inverter answers directly.
LuxPower
Sunplug Agent
Read through the dongle already fitted, with nothing to switch on. Read-only, and LuxCloud keeps working beside it.
Tesla Powerwall
Cloud API — one-click sign-in
Powerwall 3's built-in inverter, read through the Tesla connection your cars already use.
Sungrow
Sunplug AgentCloud API — one-click sign-in
Read locally over Modbus with the agent, or approve on Sungrow's own page — cloud readings every five minutes.
SolaX
Sunplug AgentCloud API — personal credentials
Read locally with the agent, or generate a token yourself in the SolaX portal. The easiest cloud there is.
GoodWe
Sunplug AgentCloud API — personal credentials
Read locally with the agent, or use your SEMS account for the cloud — GoodWe publish no proper API, so read the caveat.
Hoymiles
Sunplug Agent
DTU-Pro over Modbus, or OpenDTU over plain HTTP — either way, pair it with a grid meter. DTU-Lite works too, via OpenDTU.
Victron GX
Sunplug Agent
Cerbo, Ekrano or Venus OS. Reads the whole site — production, grid per phase, house load and battery — all measured, nothing derived.
SMA
Sunplug Agent
SunSpec over Modbus on your own network. Publishes no meter, so pair a Shelly.
KOSTAL
Sunplug Agent
PLENTICORE and PIKO IQ over Modbus. The Smart Energy Meter gives the grid reading.
Huawei
Sunplug Agent
SUN2000 over Modbus, on Huawei's own registers rather than SunSpec.
Cars
Sunplug can control charging for any car connected to one of the
supported smart chargers. The capabilities are reduced, however, by the
lack of access to the car's state of charge. We are working on
integrating more car APIs to narrow the gap between the fully featured
Tesla implementation and every other manufacturer.
Smart Chargers
Controlling the charger rather than the car is what makes the make of your
car stop mattering — the limit is applied at the socket. One caveat worth
knowing before you start: a charger talks to one service at a time, so
pointing it at Sunplug takes it away from its manufacturer's app.
Keeping your charger's app
An OCPP charger talks to one service at a time — pointing it at Sunplug
normally takes it away from its manufacturer. Sunplug can pass
everything through instead, so their app keeps working too. Optional,
and OCPP only.
