Tesla Powerwall

Powerwall 3 has a solar inverter built in. Sunplug reads it through your existing Tesla car connection — nothing extra to authorise.

Connecting

  1. Settings → Equipment → look for Tesla
  2. Sign in on Tesla's own page if you have not already
  3. Sunplug lists what the account holds — your cars, and your Powerwall
  4. Confirm the site, and it becomes your inverter. With several energy sites on the account, pick one

One call, all four numbers

A Powerwall reports production, grid, house load and battery in one reading, so surplus is measured rather than inferred.

The battery is yours, not ours

Sunplug only reads your Powerwall. Charging, discharging, backup reserve and storm-watch stay in the Tesla app. In Settings, choose battery first (cars wait until the Powerwall is above your reserve) or cars first (cars take the surplus ahead of it).

If your solar is not Tesla

Beside an Enphase or SolarEdge system, Sunplug reads the battery from Tesla and production from the other inverter.

When it does not work

Sunplug says it found no site to use

The account holds only non-solar energy products, such as a Wall Connector. Sunplug lists them with the reason each cannot be used.

A battery with no panels

A battery-only install reports no production, so there is no surplus. Pair it with the inverter that makes it, or a Shelly at your supply point.

The readings stop after you disconnect Tesla

Expected: the Powerwall is read through the car connection. Reconnecting restores both.
